The story
Powell describes Halifax’s 1758 legal rating of a Spanish dollar at five local shillings, equivalent to four dollars per account pound. [1]
McCullough reports that Nova Scotia’s 1758 five-shilling dollar act was disallowed; the Halifax rating persisted by custom. [2]
