The story
The Saudi Central Bank dates the first Saudi silver riyal to 1346 AH/1928 AD and the first silver riyal bearing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's name to 1354 AH/1935 AD. [1]
The 1936 diplomatic report describes the 1928 Saudi rules as adapting older Turkish gold-account reckoning while substituting the Saudi riyal for the mejidie. It separately reports continued non-Saudi currency use in Najd. [2]
