The story
The bank's centenary history describes provisional 1923 notes made from overprinted gold-deposit certificates, followed by regular American Bank Note Company issues in 1924. [1]
Panama’s own monetary system succeeded Colombian currency in circulation at independence; the balboa was established in 1904. [2]
The 1821 monetary legislation retained the Spanish eight-real peso system in independent Colombia. [3]
