The story
Contemporary report describes the Hyderabad Currency Act as granting Osmania rupees full legal tender, while British rupees could be used by contractual agreement. [1]
The paper-currency reserve separately accounts for 52, 660, 142 Osmania rupees versus British rupee notes and coin. [2]
RBI records Hyderabad Hali Sicca legal-tender cessation and replacement by Indianrupees on 1 April 1955. This is a legal-tender/absorption event; exact final account-unit extinction remains unresolved. [3]
Turning points
Account-unit observation
The 1909 Gazetteer's TableIII reports decade-average commodity prices explicitly per Hyderabad rupee. Its retrospective survey provides local price-unit evidence for 1881–1890, without fixing the unit's origin or proving every intervening accounting stage. [4]
Account-unit observation
The same table separately reports 1901 grain prices in Hyderabad rupees and distinguishes that unit from British rupees in its note. [5]
